Cancun, Mexico as a family vacation?

It is certainly a beautiful place, amazin beaches, beautiful city, lot’s of activities, places to visit, like the mayan pyramids, old town.
But if you go on spring break… it’s wild there!! Party all day long, in every street, besides you’d find Cancun is very americanized.
There’s a small island, 15 min in a ferry from Cancun, called Isla Mujeres, it’s so beautiful, there you can have time to relax, enjoy the beach, and still visit all the places Cancun has to offer.
As for old cities, you could visit Guanajuato (state Guanajuato) is a very beautiful, old city, where you could know the real Mexico, this is a “colonial” city, most of it’s buildings have been there since Mexico was a Spanish colony, full of cultural activities, but no beach at all
Puerto Vallarta is also an option, is a beach, not so americanized as Cancun, cheaper and also a great option for family vacation.

Well I was going to say yes, but after I read all of your question I don’t know if Cancún is the place for you. Cancún is a great place don’t get me wrong… it has some of the most amazing white, powdery sand beaches and gorgeous turquoise, blue water. Cancún is a place though for partying and drinking. It’s known for it’s nightlife. So, if you don’t like to go to bars or nightclubs you might not like it in Cancún. It’s very touristy and very Americanized. It’s almost like you aren’t even in Mexico. So, if you are looking for old cities this isn’t the place to consider. Puerto Vallarta is a nice old Spanish city located on the western side of Mexico and has nice beaches. You both would probably enjoy that more. Cancú is young (started development in 1970) and vibrant and almost like Ibiza. Cancún is nice, but I think you would enjoy Puerto Vallarta more if you like the old city feeling. You can have a great time in Cancún even if you don’t drink. There is tons of shopping and restaurants also for you to enjoy and of course just laying on the beach and soaking up some sun. There are other activities you can enjoy as well. Cancun is a “party city” but it can still be good on a family vacation. If you just want nice beaches and very few tourists, look into Akumal. I’m 23 and I’ve gone with my mom about 5 times. And you can go see the old Mayan caves which are not far from Akumal
