Is Easter week bad time to visit Florence?

My children’s spring break occurs right during the Easter week. I have booked us a vacation to Florence from 4/2 to 4/9. I plan on doing one or two train trips to the surround areas. At the time I didn’t think about Easter at all. A friend who is Italian said: “Are you crazy? Italians will be going on vacations themselves. Everything will be closed! You won’t be able to get a train ticket.”

Is he right? Should I have booked the trip at another time?
Thank you everyone for your informative answers. I don’t feel so bad now.
I am both excited and scared about our trip. I have never been to Italy and don’t speak a word of Italian. I have nightmares of me making a fool of myself because I don’t know how to order food in a restaurant, or worse, get on the wrong train and get completely lost.
