How to stay in contact with each other during cruise?

My family is thinking of going on a cruise sometime in the next year. There’s two adults, a 16 year old girl and a 12 year old boy. The kids will not always be together with the adults and I wanted to know, it theres no cell service (and we don’t want to pay a lot of money to get it) then how do people usually stay in contact?
Also if you have any recommendations for paticular cruises. We are thinking about Royal Carribbean. Thanks!

I have seen folks with ordinary walkie-talkies on board various ships, and that seems to work well. In our family, everybody wears a watch, and in the morning we decide whether, when, and where we will all meet for lunch, etc. Of course, it’s important that people generally know about where somebody will be in the interim — like at the teen club, at the pool, etc.

I would advise using 2 way radios to communicate. I have a set of them that I use hunting, and also on trips where my wife and I may be apart (like if she’s on the beach with the kids, and I’m up in the room). The new ones have a tremendous range (up to 28 miles), and cost under $100 bucks for 2 of them. They are easy to use, can be set on several different channels to avoid interference, have a clip for your belt, and are small enough to stick in a shirt pocket or a purse if you want. As far as the cruise, I think that Royal Caribbean would be a good choice. Carnival seems to be a little more economical, but the food isn’t near as good. Have fun! Here’s a link to some Motorola talkabouts on the Bass Pro shops website for you to check out.

Get a set of those small 2 way radios, Argos do a set of two for about £25, but I know you can get sets of 4 and they are all rechargable. Shop around might find them cheaper.
