I am going to Germany for work and vacation in January. What kind of clothes/shoes do you wear? I am from Texas and we don’t really have winter (our normal clothes/shoes work pretty much all year round). I am a style-conscious woman who wants to make sure I look cute and not out of place. Serious answers only please. Thanks so much!

First you should check a week before going the weather forecast for the area that you will be staying, that will help you do your packing.
You should always travel with comfortable shoes, remember that it is winter in that time of the year.
You should pack waterproof shoes you could get a pair of nice leather boots, a nice coat that can be used day and night, an umbrella is always useful, scarfs, a pair of gloves and some hats. Try to dress in layers so when you go inside you don´t get really hot or cold.

    Hello Iamhopef,
I **** to bring the bad news to you, but some parts of Germany are absolutely freezing in January.

My brother used to live in Berlin, I took a truck from England to Germany to move all of his things. My truck was 11 feet high, and two days prior to leaving, my brother called me, and said do not come, the weather is really bad.

Well you know what men are like, too macho etc, I took my truck drove across Holland and into Germany.
As I was coming across Holland approaching Germany, snow was falling at a rate I have never seen before, it was like someone was throwing snow balls at my truck.
I have never experienced cold like it in all of my life, they had heavy snow, and the snow drifts were taller than my 11 foot truck. I got out of my truck to put some more diesel in the tank, It took me just a few moments to empty the five gallon gas can, in that short period of time, I got so cold, I did not know whether cry or scream, I am not kidding.
The heater was going full blast on my truck, but still the wind shield wipers were frozen solid.

I do not spit, it’s a disgusting habit, but I wondered if it would freeze before it hit the ground, it was almost instant. I have heard that story before, and wondered if it was true, and unfortunately the severity of that weather conformed it for me.

I have traveled a lot, I now live in VA and we get cold weather at times, but by comparison 18 degrees is warm to what I experienced in the Berlin area. I asked my brother if this weather was typical for January, and he said, it’s not usually that bad. But he did say, it’s always bitterly cold in the winter months.

If you are heading for that area, take all the warm clothes you can, I really can not describe how cold that trip was. I loved the city of Berlin, but as regards to the weather, they can keep it.

I trust this information shall be of benefit, and allow you to take the necessary measures and clothing to ensure you have a great time.
