    Day off.

If you’re off work/school for a while you would call it a holiday.

National holidays are referred to as bank holidays.

Christmas, Easter etc are called BANK HOLIDAYS.

The term ‘Vacation’ is NOT recognised in parts of England.

you call it either a day off; a day off for Christmas / Easter / etc or if it is longer than a day I call it the Christmas holiday, the Easter holiday etc national days off work or as we call them in the UK ‘Bank Holidays’ are just called Bank Holidays

Vacation time is called ‘holiday’ or ‘annual leave’ (business use, more formal)

National holidays etc are known as Bank Holidays.
Some companies now also refer to bank holidays as ‘statutory holidays’.

We see this question on a regular basis. Holiday – originally Holy Day. Vacation = to leave empty.
