I am planning going to Vancuver Canada from San Francisco by road, I wonder if HWY 101 is safe to drive in the last week of December? Is it snowy in winter holidays?

i wouldnt reccomend it. It probably wont be icy, or snowy, but you might have mud slides to deal with through oregon. You can just check the road conditions before you leave, see if there are any mud slides, see what the rain is like, and then you should be fine. It wont be snowing in oregon or washington, just raining.

Take I5N its not as pretty, but its safer, and a quicker drive, and more cities to stop in such as medford, salem, portland, seattle

It can be slow, wet and windy that time of year. Also, parts of it in No Cal are prone to landslides. Unless you’re going for the scenic value, I’d take I-5 all the way instead.
