Stay in Fess Parker’s B&B in the Santa Ynez Valley and tour the wineries. North of Santa Barbara, 2-3 hours from LA.

Just about anywhere that appeals to you. Personally, I particularly like Prague, copenhagen or Vienna, but that doesn’t fit with your budget. What kinds of things are you interested in? Colorado can be very nice around Christmas time.
